Electricity export worth 10.38 billion in five and a half months, additional 23.5 MW export permission

In the first five and a half months of this year, electricity worth 10.38 billion 96 million rupees has been exported to India. Nepal Electricity Authority has exported 1 billion 26 million 25 million 38 thousand units of electricity which was consumed within the country and earned 10 billion 38 million 96 million rupees till October.

The authority has started selling the surplus monsoon electricity consumed within the country from last 19th June (2 June 2022) through competition in the day-ahead market of Indian Energy Exchange Limited (IX). As the electricity trade with India is done in Indian rupees (Bharu), Nepal has received 6.49 billion 3.5 million Bharu from the sale of electricity during this period.reserves and the trade deficit between the two countries. In the beginning, 39 megawatts of electricity produced by two power plants was considered as a source and was sold to IX on a daily basis. After that, from 27th June (10 June 2022), 364 megawatts of electricity produced by 6 hydropower plants were being sold daily in the Indian market at a competitive rate.With the start of electricity export from Chilime and Solu rivers from last October 18 and 30 respectively, the approved capacity of electricity exported to India has reached 409 megawatts.
