National Independent Party Chairman Ravi Lamichhane has commented that validating the Citizenship Bill is against democratic parliamentary values and the national interest.
President Ramchandra Paudel certified the controversial Citizenship Bill on Wednesday. Even though it was passed by the previous federal parliament, the bill, which was stopped by former president Bidya Devi Bhandari, was approved only before the four-day visit of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ started.
Speaker Lamichhane wrote on social media, “Even though it has been 6 months since the new parliament was formed with the new mandate, without discussing it in the parliament, the government’s approval of the old bill by the president is contrary to the dignity of a respected institution like the president, democratic parliamentary values and against the national interest.”
